Track: Keep The Spirit Growing
Session:

Building an Electronic Community

Speaker: Keith E. W. Gross, Executive Director, Edmonton FreeNet, Edmonton
Time: Saturday 1:30 PM
Report By: Tyler Hill, Student, Grant MacEwan Community College

The central idea of this session was a set of twenty-three key words which are essential in the building of an electronic community such as the Edmonton Freenet. These key words create the building blocks to the structure of the electronic community. The goal for creating the network is defined by words such as focus and mission. These concepts also help to guide the growth of the network in the right direction.. Words such as ownership, passion and cooperation , define the membership and their input into the community. Integration and inclusivity define the roles of the members and cause the membership to interact with each other with a positive outcome. Words such as these define the goal of the electronic community, the membership that the electronic community is made up of, and the eventual success of the community.
