Your Centre forms partnerships with local computer companies. The Centre provides computer companies with coupons ($5 to $10 off any given course) to be handed out to customers who have purchased computer products. Promotional CAC flyers could also be placed throughout the stores. Honorable mention ...goes to two other Sustainability entries: Whistler Community Cap Project, BC : Marysville Community Access Centre, NB Whistler: Social workshops "The Coffee Club," "Business Lunch With US" directed topics of interest to the local community user and small business user Internet operation skills were offered through a motivational weekly theme approach. Topics for the locals Coffee Club included "E-mail Mama";Never Too Old to Surf"; Home and Gardening; Travel and Leisure; and Genealogy. Business Lunch with us explored Setting up Your System; E-Mail for Business Use; Marketing and Promotion on the Internet; Internet Revenue; System Integrity, Year 2000 Problem. In addition to computer instructors and high school CAP trainers who volunteered half their instructional time, local community authorities on each topic came in as recourse people on the subject i.e. "Never Too Old to Surf" was addressing Seniors Use of the Internet and individuals from our locals seniors group who had taken some computer programs from us talked about overcoming fear and how easy and useful the Internet was for them. Nutritionists, Public Health Agencies, Travel Agencies, Gardening Clubs, Book clubs and so on all came in as recourse volunteers for specific topics. Marysville: "DDO Volunteers" - Partnering with the Dept. of Justice this Sustainability idea supports Human Resources at the Centre by have a member of the community fulfill hours of volunteer work for a Drinking and Driving Offence. Due to the fact that many of these offenders are not dangerous or threatening individuals (They have real jobs like you and I but can't afford to pay the high fine and opt to do volunteer work within their community) it makes sense to provide them with practical community work while meeting the HR needs of the Centre.
